Detsky Mir opens 100 stores in 2016
Detsky Mir Group, the largest children’s goods retailer in Russia and Kazakhstan, announces that it opened 100 stores in 2016.
Growth was most active in and around Moscow, where Detsky Mir expanded with 40 new store openings during the year. The total number of stores in and around Moscow as of the end of 2016 was 147, while St. Petersburg now has 33 Detsky Mir retail outlets.
Detsky Mir entered several new regions in 2016, including Chechnya (Grozny), Ingushetia (Magas and Nazran), and Dagestan (Makhachkala). The Company also opened its first stores in Arzamas, Bratsk, Budyonnovsk, Gubkin, Domodedovo, Istra, Lukhovitsy, Lytkarino, Sergeev Posad, Solnechnogorsk, Staraya Kupavna, Chaikovskiy and Chita.
Detsky Mir continued to expand in Kazakhstan, with five new store openings in 2016. The Company debuted in Aktobe, Kostanay and Uralsk with new supermarkets, and expanded its presence in Astana and Almaty, bringing its presence in Kazakhstan to 12 stores in seven cities (Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Karaganda, Kostonay, Uralsk, and Shemkent).

Detsky Mir’s total retail space increased by 105 thousand sq m in 2016, reaching a total of 596 thousand sq m. This consists of 591 thousand sq m of Detsky Mir retail space and 5 thousand sq m of ELC retail space. As of the end of 2016, Detsky Mir Group consisted of 525 stores, of which 480 operated under the Detsky Mir brand and 45 under the ELC brand.
