Detsky Mir is Expanding Its Eco-collections of Apparel, Footwear and Toys

Moscow, Russia, 17 September 2020 – Detsky Mir Group (“Detsky Mir” or the “Company”, MOEX: DSKY), the largest specialized children’s goods retailer in Russia and Kazakhstan, announces the expansion of the product range of its eco-collections.

As a socially responsible business and a leading major retailer, Detsky Mir is particularly committed to environmental protection and stewardship. When planning the product range for its current apparel and footwear collection, Detsky Mir focused on their environmental aspects.

At present, Detsky Mir stores offer 44 models of Blue Seven children’s apparel made from organic cotton for age brackets from 0 to 2 years and from 2 to 6 years. Cotton for this collection is hand-picked without using chemicals (defoliants). Finished fabric is not treated with formaldehydes or other chemicals that can trigger allergies.

During the fall/winter 2020 season (including the school season), Detsky Mir also stopped using single-use plastic bags for most Apparel and Footwear items. A considerable proportion of footwear is offered by Detsky Mir stores without additional packaging. The stores use special hangers made from recyclables to showcase items in this category. By cutting out single-use plastic bags, Detsky Mir prevents over 90 million plastic bags, weighing over 30 tonnes, from being dumped into garbage bins every year.

This season, Detsky Mir’s product assortment also features an exclusive line of sneaker models produced using materials sourced from certified suppliers manufacturing high-quality, high-tech polyester yarn out of recycled plastic bottles. This material offers improved durability over sneakers made of textile. The soles of these sneakers are made of thermoplastic rubber, produced by recycling old soles, plastic bottles and polyethylene bags.

Currently, Detsky Mir’s eco footwear line features 11 TM Run and Jomoto models. Next year, Detsky Mir plans to launch a new collection of plimsoll shoes and sandals made from organic cotton, thereby more than tripling the range in this category against the previous year.

The toy assortment has also been enhanced, with the Detsky Mir chain now offering more than 100 products labeled as Eco Friendly. Soft toys sold under the Aurora brand are made from recycled fillers and granules and are shipped in environmentally friendly packaging. The hang tags and sewn labels used by the manufacturer to label its products are made from recycled materials, thus further demonstrating a conscious attitude towards the environment.

The production of eco goods causes minimal harm to the environment and does not contaminate the soil or ground water with chemicals. All goods made from recycled materials and sold in the Detsky Mir chain are marked with special labels and stickers, which the customer can find on product boxes or products.

Sustainable consumption and care for the environment are becoming more than just trends, but a way of life for our generation. Detsky Mir seeks to keep abreast of the times and maintain its focus on ECO products. When visiting our stores, environmentally conscious customers can opt for goods marked with special stickers, and be sure that they are made from safe materials. As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Detsky Mir has also signed a cooperative agreement with the Dmitrov RTI Plant, a partner for Detsky Mir’s campaign to collect and recycle unwanted clothing and footwear at our retail stores, run this year for the second time,” said Julia Polikarpova, Head of Public Relations.
